Lastly, George Donato, Associate Division Chief in the FCC’s Cybersecurity and Communications Reliability Division, asked us to make you aware “of a spate of recent hacking incidents affecting broadcasters.  As described in more detail in this PSHSB Public Notice, bad actors have targeted poorly secured air-chain equipment including Studio Transmitter Links (STL), resulting in unauthorized access to radio station infrastructure and the broadcast of EAS tones combined with offensive audio content to the public over the air.  These attacks can compromise trust in EAS and pose a risk to public safety.”  If you’ve not already done so, please take time here at the beginning of 2026 to update passwords, and secure your systems as outlined in the public notice.

We wish you all a great 2026.

Britt and Roger
EAS Broadcast Co-Chairmen
